Contemporary
Russian design at Heritage Gallery
auction
The central theme of the latest auction of Russian art at the Heritage
Gallery was Russian design and applied art. The auction organisers decided to
look at Russian design through the prism of traditions and historical legacies,
and thus included both contemporary designers and the works of Russian masters
of the 19th and 20th centuries. The auction was a huge
success, due to the interesting mix of lots, the pre-New-Year prices, and the
fact that the auctioneer was none other than Kristina Krasnyanskaya, the owner
of Heritage.

As
is traditional, the auction began with a section on 20th century
painting and artworks, where a big fight occurred for works by Georgy
Pozhedayev (Mazurka and Queen of Spades), Dmitry Bushen (Acrobat
with the moon) and Alexander Altman (Small town on the river). The
auction then continued with a section on design and applied art. The first
lots, a spinning wheel and painted box from Archangel Region were sold for much
higher than the estimate, while in the contemporary design segment, every lot
was sold.

The money boxes made by the young designer Vadim Kibardin were sold
for three times the starting price, while Tina Kamchatnova's table was sold for
double.

The
cubist collage by Serge Mendzhiisky, New York, River, which was valued
at $7000, was sold for $14,000, while a fight was had for Irina Vinter's Midnight
plait (estimate $9000, sold for $10,500).

The
event was sponsored by Burvestnik Group and Quintessentially.
Guests
included Andrei Boiko, Olga Panchenko, Ksenia Chilingarvoa, Ksenia Grigorieva,
Alexander Zhurbin, Maria Shandalova, Laura Dzhugelia, Svetlana Tavrina, Anna
Shavera and others.
